What can Austinites learn from New York Fashion Week? PLUS 5 fall fashion tips!
“What can Austinites learn from New York’s Fashion Week?”
Coming off of our own Austin Fashion Week, I thought it was an important question to ask. I mean, it’s not like you’re going to wear some of the crazy stuff that comes down the runway anyway. Or let’s be honest, pay for something so ridiculously expensive. So does it really matter? Well, yes, yes it does.
The reason I say this is because while Austin has always taken pride in its own unique fashion, we must admit we do take inspiration from larger cities such as New York, London and Los Angeles just as they have started taking notice of our cool, eclectic style. That’s one of the best things about Austin fashion, we are able to take international trends and make them our own.
So I’m going to share a secret. Ready?
An event like New York Fashion Week helps us. It enables designers to present their collections to a group of press, bloggers and buyers and disseminate info very quickly to people like yourselves. It allows us to get a feeling about where fashion is going next year and then you can pick and choose how to incorporate current trend pieces into your everyday style.
So what are some of the upcoming Fall trends can we learn from New York fashion week to incorporate into our own?
(1) Capes & Ponchos
For Austinites, we might not get the brutally cold New York weather, but when the hot temperatures start to fluctuate nothing would be more perfect than a short poncho to help make the transition between summer to winter that more fashion forward.
(2) Neutrals
Camel is the new black and we can take a note from New York fashion in incorporating it into our regular everyday attire as a consistent staple piece. Try it in pants, blouses or short jackets, and use your accessories for the unique pops of color.
(3) Structured Blazer
Still have lots of summer dresses your not ready to put away yet? Try pairing them with a structured jacket and you’ve just taken your summer style to Fall forward fashion in under $20. Men, do the same thing by pairing a more structured jacket with shorts or jeans and your on your way to being stylish.
(4) Fux Fur
While you might have your own opinions about fur, faux-fur can take any ole’ boring jacket or vest up a notch and add an element of luxury and a bit of fun.
(5) One color - head to toe!
All over color is another one of those styles that allows you to keep using your summer pieces into Fall by adding a new piece here or there, plus you can then use each piece individually to create another five looks - economical and fashionable!
So for these upcoming fall fashions how do you plan to shop or rework your closet?
