What Texas wine pairs with Austin’s Texan Cuban? Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival 2010 Preview.
This weekend is the 25th Anniversary of the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival. I love wine AND I love food, so it’s one of my favorite events of the year.
To help get in the spirit of the festival, we chose three of our favorite Austin food vendors (Torchy’s Tacos, Texan Cuban and Frank) and asked our friends over at Whole Foods to help us pair them with Texas wines from the festival. Sharing is caring, so over the next three days, we will be sharing our pairings.
Yesterday, we learned what wines to pair with Torchy’s Tacos. Today, Beer and Wine Team Lead at Whole Foods Jenn Powell is going to show us what to pair with a Cuban sandwich (grilled pork tenderloin, ham, swiss, provolone) from the Texan Cuban. With lots of black beans and 2 different kinds of plantains, I thought this would be interesting.
For this pairing, Jenn chose a really kick-a wine from super-local Fall Creek Vineyards. Founded by the Auler family in 1975, Fall Creek Vineyards are located just outside of Austin. Incidentally, the Auler family also started the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival. [Check out Rachel's visit to the Fall Creek Vineyards for the grape stomp last fall]
In the video, below, find out which wine Jenn picks for the Cuban sandwich and learn her take on pairing wine with black beans and pork!
