“Blogger Intro: Rachel”
Hey Everyone:
I have lived in Texas my whole life. Although I’ve dreamed of living elsewhere, I haven’t. My friends, my family, my person is in Texas. Texas has this identity that other states are jealous of.
I was born and raised in Houston. Not the suburbs, but in Houston, inside the loop (well, maybe a tiny bit outside the loop). Our high school hangouts were parking garages-no joke! College took me to Lubbock with the wide, open spaces and dry counties.
I hated Austin when I was in college. Maybe it was the UT-Tech rivalry or trying to find parking around campus or not having a fake ID for 6th Street. It all irritated me, and I never thought I would call this city home. I visited Austin after college and fell in love with its people, its scenery, and its energy. I think this is the source of Ponce de Leon’s Fountain of Youth, as people’s bodies age but their hearts don’t.
Talk soon,
Rachel
