Republic of Austin is pleased to announce that nominations for the 2009 Roaries Awards are open.
Austin without music would be like peanut butter without jelly, beans without rice, or Willie without the braids. But we have to support the scene to keep it alive. To showcase some of the best musicians in the city that may not be getting recognition, Republic of Austin decided to create the Roaries, a new kind of award celebrating the Austin musicians that YOU like.
We created seven categories that celebrate Austin’s best musicians, and we’ve left the nomination and voting process up to YOU! After all the votes are tallied in February 2010, we ‘re gonna have an awards ceremony to recognize the winners and an after party to celebrate the live musical capital of the world.
Nominate your favorite Austin musicians for consideration. Check the official rules here. Our focus is primarily on up-and-coming acts, but who knows what we’ll take. Self nominations are welcome. Get your fans to support you for finalist consideration. Nominations will be open through Midnight CST on January 10th, 2010.
The Roaries Committee will select 5 finalists for each category based on number of submissions and artists accomplishments in 2009. Popular voting will begin on January 18th, 2010, and run through Midnight CST on February 1st, 2010.
This may not be some fancy Grammy’s ceremony, but this is Austin. We know how to have a good time and we like to keep it local. So support your local scene. Rock the vote, and nominate musicians that, um, rock!
