This Saturday, July 11th, from 7P – 11P, East End Gallery (E. 11th at Navasota) will be hosting a Body Canvas Bash featuring LIVE human canvases [Check the flyer here]. No, this isn’t some crazy “Silence of the Lambs” ish; it’s a bunch of girls in bikinis getting painted on by local artists. What could be hotter than that? In addition to complimentary adult beverages, you can also catch RoA’s own art blogger Jasmine as she becomes a living work of art. Stay tuned for the vid of her experience sometime next week!

Portrait by Austin artist Matchi on display at the East End Gallery

Last month, Jasmine and I headed over to the Eastside to meet East End Gallery owner Suzanne Saunders. One part punk, one part soul, Suzanne told us a little about the gallery and explained why she chose the Eastside over other art hotspots like SoCo or W. 6th.

While there, we also checked out the works of over 40 local artists, including skateboard artist Jeff Little, and Rick Calzadilla, an artist who paints most of his work on the Pedestrian Bridge over Town Lake. Some of my faves included giant portraits by Matchi of women who look like they hang out at the Korova Milk Bar in”A Clockwork Orange“; folk meets modern skeletons by hot rod artist Crash (aka Cindy Raschke); and Kayt Hester, a woman who makes portraits completely out of tiny pieces of shredded masking tape. You’ve gotta see it to believe it!

In today’s 4-minute transmission, see if you can spot:
