2009 June 2

My friends Roger and Molly have joined a blossoming scene here in Austin; they’re backyard gardeners.

Molly works at the Great Outdoors Nursery and has brought her love and knowledge of gardening to her home in South Austin.  [Check out Republic of Austin's video interview with the Great Outdoors founder Tom Tinguely].  With the proper soil and a little attention, their garden is producing fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Roger says their family enjoys meals harvested from their garden 5 to 10 times a week.  From eggplants and artichokes to onions and peppers, their garden provides a colorful array of food.

Do you have a backyard garden?  Tell us in the comments about your experience growing your own food in Austin!
