Procrastinators Guide to Cinco de Mayo Parties 2010 in Austin

2010 May 5

Someone asked me why Cinco de Mayo was a big deal in Texas. A celebration of the Mexican army’s victory over the French army, it’s kinda like St Patrick’s day for Mexicans in the US. Since Texas was once a Mexican state, it’s only natural that we celebrate it. Plus, we Austinites always look for an excuse to get wasted celebrate. So, if you’re feeling like a fiesta, check out our top picks for Cinco de Mayo. If you want something smaller, check out beer blog Beertown Austin’s top picks for Mexican beers.

Cinco de Mayo 2010 (May 5th, gringos) in Austin

La Condesa Cinco de Mayo Downtown Block Party

Yeah, so everyone at RoA loves La Condesa. Their take on Mexican street food blows us away, and their drinks–well, they rock, too. Last year’s Cinco de Mayo block party was mucho divertido, so can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store this year. We expect it will have something to do with live music, Mexican street food, tequila, margaritas and beer. After party at Malverde!

What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo then dressing up as Panch Villo, Mexico’s bandito numbero uno? Cedar Door is droppin free Dos XX for anyone dressed in PV’s signature mustache and sombrero. Plus, you get to hear 3 up and comin Austin bands for FREE.

Tons of local fashion and jewelry designers droppin their latest designs, made from recycled goods. Plus, DJ’s helpin you shake it. Ok, so this isn’t exactly Cinco de Mayo-themed, but they will have a piñata party at midnight.
