Last night, Rare Magazine and Dos Equis hosted the “Most Interesting Academy” party at the Falkenstein Castle out in Burnet.  Playing off their Most Interesting Man advertising campaign, the event promised to make attendees become interesting by giving demonstrations on crazy things like bugging eating, medieval weaponry and skydiving simulations.  The hour-and-a-half drive (or complimentary bus ride) out there was a little intimidating, but I’m so glad I went!

First off, the location was an incredible find.  Perched on a hill over looking the Texas Hill country,  Falkenstein Castle was inspired by plans for a castle of the same name designed by German King Ludwig II. (Brief history of German castles: This dude designed Neuschwanstein, the fairy-tale castle in Bavaria that also inspired Sleeping Beauty’s Castle at Disneyland).   When the castle popped up over the horizon, it was like whoa.  It turned completely magical at night when they projected trippy moving rave visual on the side.

The booze was flowing. The food was pretty darn good. And Z-Trip‘s turntablism rocked the party.  Oh yeah: And Bird’s Barbershop gave one of my housemates a kick-A haircut (In a castle! WHAT?!)

For those of you who got turned away (apparently they stopped letting folks in at 830P ish), didn’t want to wait in the bus lines (106 F yesterday!), or are just uninteresting (SRSLY), check out the pics and video below to get a taste of Dos Equis’ “Most Interesting Academy.” We didn’t bring out the HD camera, but you’ll still get a feel for what went down.

In the one-and-a-half-minute video, spot these things:

  • Chris eating bugs
  • Clown band welcoming us
  • Castle melting under rave visuals
  • Hear Z-trip mix and mash

Yea , I went withe a friend specifically to take pictures of each other at a unique location .

I’m not a drinker ; perhaps it was more endurable w/ alcohol .

The dos equi parties are given over for locals to throw . That usually has meant ( at least in nyc and austin ) that the partys get closed down and or about 3/4ths of the people that attend have a bad time . ( due to no cap on attendance / open invitation to free alcohol and entertainment and EVERYONE comes ) … in my opinion ‘ too many people ‘ spells disaster .

Any way … we came just at dusk … walked around for ten minutes took pictures and left .

Glad you had fun the way the party was intended !

See you at gadjo ! …
