“April 13th, 2009: Crystal Castles at La Zona Rosa”
Last night, Noe and I went to see Crystal Castles at La Zona Rosa.
From the minute lead singer Alice Glass lumbered out on stage taking swigs of Vodka straight from the bottle, I knew this was going to rock. Raw and disembodied like her music, she slipped from screams to robot voices. One part angsty punk, one part electro pop and just a hint of new rave, the crowd couldn’t help but dance/hop/mosh to the synth riffs, atari blips and grinds.
My favorite moment of the night was at the end of the set. After the music had stopped, Alice dove into the crowd one last time. Instead of pulling her back on to the stage, a security guard held her up. Fans swarmed in trying to touch her. Head bowed and vulnerable, she attempted to touch each hand back, softly repeating “Thank you” to each fan.
Here are some of the pics I was able to snap with my iPhone. Look closely and you can spot Alice! [For truly kick-A photos from the night, check out Pooneh Ghana's Flickr set from the show.]
