“Austinites’ Fun Fun Fun Fest Picks: Austin Party Team Knuckle Rumbler”

Fun Fun Fun Fest is like Austin’s little secret music festival. Everything is bigger in Texas, so a “little” music festival still means it needs a roadmap and a hand guide.  With 2 days and 4 stages, Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009 still can be overwhelming, esp if you like hip-hop, indie, punk and comedy.  We’ve asked some of our favorite peeps in Austin to help interpret the line-up by sharing their Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009 Picks!

Aaron Berkowitz and Jill Sorrells are Knuckle Rumbler

We had such a great time with Jill Sorrels and Aaron Berkowitz aka Knuckle Rumbler’s ACL Fest 2009 Picks that we invited them back for Round 2!  These kids know how to throw a party AND they also know their music. They’ve been to EVERY major American music festival EVERY year for the last 8 years. No joke!

Fresh off a trip to VooDoo Fest in New Orleans, the Knuckle Rumbler team is fitna go ballistic on the Scoot Inn this Friday night.  Joining forces with Austin’s Austin Town Hall, Ultra 8201, Do512, and our homegirl Sailor Legs, they’re dropping The Combo Plate, a party that’s guarantee to be OTC.  Check it: Two Stages, one mission: party like it’s 2012! The Rock stage has Ideal Soul Mart, heavy metal ABBA cover band StABBA, the San Marcos thrashers Zlam Dunk and Stillwater natives Colourmusic.  The dance stage has Prepmode, Neiliyo and The Hood Internet.

So: Like a one-night stand that turns into two times, three times and then FB’s, Jill Sorrells and Aaron Berkowitz are back to give their picks for Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009. [Scroll down for a simple schedule!]

Aaron: Oh wow here we go again…I only do this for you Apollo. Great funking name. Please note that I’m writing this after driving 9 hours from New Orleans after 5 days in New Orleans and Voodoo Fest where Jill and I witnessed KISS destroy all theory of what a rock show should be.

Jill: Please note that I’m writing this after 9 hour car ride from New Orleans with Berk talking about catfish noodling the whole way.

Saturday, November 7th, 2009:

Aaron: Beta Player – Have never seen these guys and would love to start the whole festival off right. Hopefully there’s less guzzling beer off another man’s bareass, who happens to have only a USA banana hammock on. Oh and the beer is being poured by a lady dressed as Sarah Palin. Yes that’s how the Yuppie Pricks (NSFW) started off last year’s festival. Jill: This dude’s hat was cool at Notorious Funk.

Aaron: L.A.X. – I was there to catch them bright and early at ACL so if you missed them there you can get a bit more sleep and see them here. However I may be caught up at Royal Bangs. Jill: You know.

Jill: Low Line Caller – I love dude’s voice.

Jill: Sugar and Gold. Like a light disco breeze. Mama likes.

Aaron: Crystal Antlers – They are the only band with crystal in their name that I’ll be seeing.

Aaron: The Night Marchers – They sound older then they look. That’s a good thing I think.

Jill: Russian Circles are very good live.

Aaron: Vega – Great Band Jill: ‘No Reasons’ played 168343 times on my ipod this summer.

Aaron: The Sword – They destroyed at Bonnaroo last year and I’m stoked to have my face melted again. Jill: S-WOOOOOORD!!! saw these dudes destroy a minor league baseball field at Wall of Sound Festival a few year’s back. Been trying to catch them again since then.

Jill: MC Chris – I didn’t think anyone else knew about the Pizza Butt song.

Aaron: Melt Banana vs No Age is tough but the band that came all the way from Tokyo wins. Jill: someone between these two bands is wearing a banana hammock.

Aaron: Neon Indian – Wait…aren’t u in…. Jill: ‘Deadbeat Summer’ played 168343 times on my ipod this summer.

Aaron: Fucked Up – If I don’t see this band I fear the lead singer will hunt me down.

Aaron: Les Savy Fav – See: Fucked Up. Jill: Les Savy Fav

Aaron: Jesus Lizard – Hell yeah

Aaron: Pharcyde – Only wanna hear ‘Ya Mama’ Jill: I only want to hear ‘Can’t Keep Running Awaay aaaay aayyyy’

Aaron: Cedric Burnside and Lightnin’ Malcolm – Probably what I’m looking most forward too.

Aaron: The Underground Railroad to Candyland – They tend to wear costumes of dinosaurs on stage Jill: Is this the new soundtrack Karen O is doing with the untrained children’s choir?

Aaron: Why? – yes

Jill: Harlem – I haven’t seen them perform in a really long time, I’d like to see how success has changed them.

Jill: Street Dogs – Irish Punk. SO GOOD. Face kicker.

Aaron: Lucero – I missed his 1 million SXSW shows

Aaron: King Khan and BBQ – One of the most fun and least clothed shows I’ve ever seen Jill: I hear the king will only be paid in $100 bills, I dig that.

Aaron: D.R.I. – Should be something special.

Jill: Brian Posehn – big, orange, and funny.

Aaron: Danzig – Loud Jill: I hope they are selling ‘I saw Danzig’ tshirts.

Aaron: Kid Sister - My toes and brain will be done up and ready to close things down. Jill: let it let it perculaaate
