“Austinites’ ACL Fest 2009 Picks: Austin Emerging Music Blog TwoGroove”

2009 September 25

With so many stages and bands, ACL Fest can be overwhelming.  That’s why we’ve asked some of our favorite musicians, music bloggers, venue owners and other folks related to the Austin music scene for their ACL Fest 2009 Picks.  Each day for the next two weeks, we’ll be featuring their ACL 2009 selections.  Sure, you could just wait for the mainstream media to publish their picks, but would it be as fun.

twogroove1Maybe it’s because we’re sittin pretty in the Live Music Capital of the World, but there sure are an ish load of music blogs in this city. Thankfully they are mostly good and each have their own voice. For me, the Austin music blog that is consistently informative and funny is TwoGroove.

Written by Tyler Groover (hands down, the best name for a music blogger–and it’s REAL!), TwoGroove is a great way to keep up with emerging artists from Austin and around the world. You can also find concert photography and reviews, interviews and the obligatory MP3′s.

What I like most about TwoGrooves is when Tyler gets snarky with the Austin music scene and the bands that think they’re the ish. Peep his “How to Be A Rock Star” series to see what I’m talkin ’bout.

So what’s Tyler got to say about ACL Fest 2009:

RoA: What band are you looking forward to seeing most, and why?

TG: Bassnectar. I’m a sucker for good electronic music, and Bassnectar is near the top of the list. I just bought Mesmerizing the Ultra (again) and it has been in constant rotation in my car. Lorin Ashton creates amazing collaborations and is able to span multiple genres without reinventing the sound.

RoA:What’s your fondest (or not so fondest) ACL memory?
TG: I confess I’m a recent transplant from California; my first ACL fest was last year. I remember the standards: parking far away, walking for miles, breathing massive amounts of dust, getting a killer sunburn…all with a smile on my face. I can’t wait to do it again this year.

RoA: Anything else?

TG: I know a lot of people are happy that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs took their spot, but I was disappointed to see Beastie Boys have to drop out on account of MCA’s cancer. I’m a big fan of there and was looking forward to seeing them again. Despite a couple cancellations, sings are pointing to a great fest: the line-up is solid, Zilker now has grass, and the weather should be nicer.
