“Austinites’ ACL Fest 2009 Picks: Nightlife Party Bloggers The Peen Scene”

2009 September 22

With so many stages and bands, ACL Fest can be overwhelming.  That’s why we’ve asked some of our favorite musicians, music bloggers, venue owners and other folks related to the Austin music scene for their ACL Fest 2009 Picks.  Each day for the next two weeks, we’ll be featuring their ACL 2009 selections.  Sure, you could just wait for the mainstream media to publish their picks, but would it be as fun.

People think that Austin’s title as “Live Music Capital” means that it’s nothing but guitars and amps.  Those people haven’t read Austin nightlife blog The Peen Scene.

Run by Jenifer DeVito and Michael Hernandez, this blog is THE authority on Austin nightlife for the hip kids.  Every day, Mike drops his picks for the evening. Dubstep? Check! Electro? Check! Hip Hop? Check! Drum and Bass? You bethca! Underground Parties? Um, you’ll have to peep the site to find out.

But they don’t just do event listings, they also take party pics. Correction: Jen takes the party pics.  Reminiscent of LA’s The Cobra Snake or Last Night’s Party, her pics capture the essence of the Austin party scene.

Here’s what Mike has to say about this year’s ACL Fest line-up:

This year for the first time I can remember, ACL has some straight up electronic dance music on the bill.  I think they made good choices on who to bring into the mix for this first try. Girl Talk and Bassnectar are both very crossover.  Girl Talk will be especially interesting, hipsters and bros united!  Anyway, I didn’t realize how many acts I actually want to see this year until I put this list together.  Care to hook it up with some last minute press passes C3?!

And, since we follow his nightly picks cultishly, we’re sure we’ll love his ACL Fest picks, too. Check out the blocked-out schedule, or scroll down to see a simple list. Print them out and take them with you!

Thanks, Jen and Mike!
