Austin Procrastinators Guide to the Weekend–April 9-11th 2010

2010 April 9

Not sure what to do in Austin this weekend? No need to scour the Internet.  Check out our procrastinator’s guide to the weekend happs in Austin.

We don’t have everything (Check out our buds The Peen Scene for a full list of the nightlife party events in Austin). But what we do have is good.  Plus, it’s pretty much certain that someone from the RoA team is gonna be there. If you see us, say hi!

It’s been a LONG time since we’ve done one of these guides. But this lil dillo is finally starting to recover from SXSW. Plus, it’s spring and I feel like I’m about to jump out of my shell.

Judging by the concerts this weekend, things are back to full swing in Austin and there’s too much to do: Girl Talk at 40 Acres Fest (Free on UT Campus), Vampire Weekend (Sold Out) at Stubb’s, and Yeahsayer at La Zona Rosa (Saturday and Sunday tix still avail). And those are just the MASSIVE events. Want something a little more intimate, a lots more local and just as kick-a? Then keep reading.

Auto Body’s “Priest Party” album release party

Our friends Auto Body have completed their first album and have decided to have a big blow out bash. They’ve had some pretty dance-your-face-off shows since they debuted last fall [Check out our interview with vocals/sampler Tibaut Bowman], so this will def be a good time. Plus, our favorite Texas mashup king Car Stereo (Wars) will be there. AND PREPMODE?! Yeah, don’t miss this.

DEETS: Auto Body’s “Priest Party” album release party; The Parish (214-C E 6th St, 78701); 9p-2A; $12; All Ages FB Event

Susan Tyrrell’s Eye-Sores

Academy Award nominated actress Susan Tyrrell recently moved to Austin. If her name doesn’t sound familiar, check out her IMDB page. She’s pretty much a cult film bad ass. I particularly like her role in Cry Baby.

For 30 years, she has been painting. We got a chance to see it this week (stayed tune for the video next week!) and it’s pretty amazing. A good chunk of it is beautiful erotica. Alongside the art opening, there will also be a screening of cult film Forbidden Zone next door at the Alamo.

Oh yeah, did we mention the Octopus Project would be playing the art show?

DEETS: Susan Tyrrell’s Eye Sores; The Highball and the Alamo Drafthouse (1142 South Lamar, 78704); 7p: Screening of Forbidden Zone, 9P: Art Show at the Highball w/special musical guests The Octopus Project; Tickets: $12 for movie and art show, $10 for just art show. 21+ FB Event
