“10:10ATX: Getting Started Lowering Your Carbon Footprint”
2009 September 17
Yesterday, we challenged Austinites to reduce your carbon footprint by 10% in 2010. [Did you sign-up? You still can!]
To help kick-start your efforts, here are a few tips to get you reducing your footprint:
- Ride share! My biggest problem is fuel consumption, so my roommates and I are starting a car pool.
- Bike! I’ll also be riding my bike more.
- Telecommute! I’m working from home when possible
- Abide by and exceed the city’s water conservation restrictions . Don’t use your personal pool; Barton Springs is lovely this time of year!
- Eat local, eat organic: Shorter transport distances mean less fuel burned
- Eat mostly plants… trust me, it makes a HUGE impact because meat farming has a huge environmental impact
- Cut down your electricity bill! You can start by unplugging your appliances at night. Don’t just switch them off, UNPLUG. West Campus Living was the first business in Austin to commit to 10:10ATX. They’ve already begun minimizing their outputs.
- Plant a tree and don’t cut any down
If you haven’t already signed up for 10:10ATX please do so, and encourage every Austinite you know to do the same. We really appreciate it!
And don’t forget to ride your bike to see the global premier “Age of Stupid” this coming Monday
